Flexibility Training: Backbends & Opening the Body with Isaac Peña

Isaac Peña is a one-of-a-kind yoga instructor, flexibility personal trainer, and contortionist in New York City who has been teaching with incredible passion and understanding for over 25 years. With a lifelong background in martial arts, Zen meditation, and Thai Body work, as a personal trainer at Equinox, he found yoga in the mid-nineties, studying under a variety of iconic teachers. Led by example, Isaac started teaching in 1997, sharing his wisdom and gifts to this day, with thousands of students all over the world in NYC, France, Sweden, and Mexico. In continuing to expand his knowledge of the body’s potential, he trained in contortion for several years under AGT's Jonathan Nosan of Contorture and Bagabones. Isaac then co-founded Sankalpah Yoga studio, which he owned for five years until its closing in 2011, a journey that led to expanding his teachings at Pure Yoga, Exhale, Body & Pole, and the like. Today, he trains other contortionists, yoga teachers, aerial competitors, and circus performers, teaches flexibility class regularly at Warrior Bridge, and works privately throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and live online. Isaac is known for his intuitive work and his adaptive ability to teach everyone, from beginners to seasoned practitioners to teachers of teachers. What makes him genuinely special is that he truly understands the fundamentals of each person's human body. Taking them deeper into their physical body, more than they have ever possibly imagined. Intention and uniqueness of instruction are what make the movement magic come to life.
